6th INTERNACIONAL FLAMENCO COURSE IN CÁDIZ 2012

CÁDIZ 2012 - From the 9th to the 13th of July
The Centro de Arte y Flamenco de Sevilla (CAFS) organizes its annual workshop "Curso International de Flamenco" in Cadiz, the most ancient city still standing in Western Europe.
After its success in the past years, CAFS is offering again courses and activities designed to cover the expectations of each level of training by adapting specific methodologies that ensure the maximum performance and increased learning of our students.

VENUE
The courses will take place in Cadiz (Spain), at the Centro Municipal de Arte Flamenco "La Merced" located in the Plaza de la Merced s/n.

GENERAL PROGRAM

On Saturday July 7th, we will welcome our students with a Flamenco show performed by singer Esperanza Fernández and dancer Miguel Vargas, accompanied by other artists, at the Centro Municipal de Arte Flamenco "La Merced". Time: 9pm

On Sunday July 8th, tenemos un encuentro entre alumnos/as y profesores students and teachers will have the chance to meet in one of the traditional tapas bars of Cadiz. On this occasion, we will get to know each other and talk about the objectives of each course. Meeting point: Centro Municipal de Arte Flamenco “La Merced.” Time: 10pm

The courses will start on Monday July 9th , darán comienzo los cursos. For students enrolled in Basic/Intermediate dance course 1 (Zorongo), we offer and recommend a repetition class run by an assistant teacher.

On July 13th , we will celebrate the closing ceremony of the VI Curso Internacional de Flamenco Cadiz 2012. Students will present the songs and the choreographies that they have learnt during the course. They will also receive a Certificate from the Centro de Arte y Flamenco de Sevilla of the workshop that they have completed. As a farewell, we invite you to join us for a delicious cocktail and enjoy the beauty of summer in Cadiz. Time: 9:30pm

Esperanza Fernández - Cante
Esperanza Fernandez is without a doubt, one of the main voices of flamenco. In her long established career, Esperanza has brought her Cante to cities like New York, Rome, Paris, Brasilia, etc. She has performed with artists such as Paco de Lucia, Camarón, Enrique Morente, Yehudi Menuhin, Jean Marc Padovani, Noa, Myrian Makeba and Rafael Frühbeck of Burgos, and many others.
Miguel Vargas - Baile
His dance is pure charisma, pure energy, passion, intensity, personality, technique and pure instinct. Despite of his youth, Miguel has proven through 20 years of teaching that he is acclaimed worldwide. His productions have travelled throughout countries like the USA, the UK, the UAE, Norway, France, Italy, Greece, Japan, and many others.
Javier Katumba - Percussion/Palmas (hand-clapping)
Javier Katumba has worked with artists like Jose Luis Figueroa "El Barrio", Arrebato, Jose Merce, Montse Cortes, Niña Pastori, Manolo Carrasco and David Palomar, among others. Currently he works with singer David de Maria presenting the new album "Relojes de Arena" and he participates in the productions of Trimilenaria with David Palomar, Miguel Martinez and Saez India.
Javier Ibáñez - Guitar
Javier Ibáñez, born in Seville, moved in early years with his family to Jerez de la Frontera. His career began in 1991. At that time he starts to play in many important “Centros Culturales” and “Peñas Flamencas.” He studies flamenco guitar at the Conservatario Superior de Música de Cordoba and is currently working in the Company’s of the dancers Mercedes Ruiz and Antonio El Pipa.

Singing course 1: Aimed for those singers and dancers who want to learn and improve their knowledge of Malagueña, Jabera y Jabegote: structure, "remates", melody, "matices", etc.

Course 1: Choreography of “Zorongo”, with emphasis on "bailarle al cante" (dance to the singing), as well as learning how to create a dance while maintaining a balance between cante and escobilla.

Course 2: Learn, improvise and interpret the different styles of lyrics of the Malagueña, Jabera and Jabegote in order to create a choreography.

Course 3: Express feelings with movements, learn the different rhythms, styles and improvise "al compás" (to the beat) of Bulerias.

CÁDIZ

Cadiz is a city in the southern Andalusian region of Spain with a wealth of attractive views and well-preserved historical landmarks. Among the many historical and scenic landmarks in Cadiz, there are remarkable cathedrals, a magnificent theatre, an attractive old municipal building, an eighteenth century watchtower, a vestige of the ancient city wall, an ancient Roman theatre, and electrical pylons of with eye-catching modern design carrying cables across the Bay of Cadiz. The old town is known for its narrow winding alleys that lead to magnificent plazas, bordered from the sea by the city walls. Cadiz is also the home to Spain's most beautiful beaches. The city has 7,220 meters of wonderful white sand.

During the nights out, you will have the opportunity to visit "La Venta Vargas," where Camarón de la Isla began his career, and go through some of the most important peñas in Spain, as the Peña de El Mellizo Enrique and Peña La Perla de Cadiz.

1ST INTERNATIONAL COURSE OF FLAMENCO "FESTIVAL AL GURUGÚ" OF ARAHAL

This year, the Centro de Arte y Flamenco de Sevilla (CAFS) is organizing, in collaboration with the city council of Arahal, an intensive flamenco course “Festival Al Gurugú
We are offering a wide range of courses and activities designed to cover the expectations of each level of training by adapting specific methods to ensure maximum performance and increased learning of our students.

Miguel Vargas - Dance
His dance is pure charisma, energy, passion, intensity, personality, technique and instinct. Despite his youth, Miguel has proven after 20 years of teaching to be an indisputable maestro who has gained worldwide recognition. His productions have traveled throughout countries like the USA, the UK, the UAE, Norway, France, Italy, Greece, Japan, and many others.
José Fernández - Percussion and Palmas
He received his first lessons by Pepe Rios and he worked, as a child, with the great Farruco. He performed in “Persecución” (1978), together with El Lebrijano and Farruco, in Paco Moyano´s “De Leyenda” (1991), and in “La amante”, with Eva Yerbabuena. Until 1992 he was a fundamental part of “Fernandez Family”, with which he performed throughout Spain and eventually shared the stage with Paco Lucia. Since 1994 he has performed in Bienal de Flamenco with artist such as Tomatito and others.
Miguel Ángel Cortés - Guitar
His work is admirable as a soloist and a vocal accompaniment guitarist. In fact, he is the frequent guitarist of prestigious singers like Esperanza Fernández and Arcángel. He has also been featured with artists such as Estrella Morente, Miguel Poveda, and Chano Lobato. Some of Miguel Ángel's most important works include Enrique Morente and Lagartija Nick's Omega (1996), the DVD Casa, Cueva y Escenario with Estrella Morente, and the live presentation of Pastora 1922 in Granada.

FESTIVAL:
The students registered for the intensive courses organized by The Centro de Arte y Flamenco de Sevilla will have free access to all performance and parallel activities of the festival from Sunday to Thursday. On Friday and Saturday a 20% discount on tickets will be applied.

COURS:
A 10% discount will be applied for the second course and a 15% discount for the third one.
The 15% discount will be applied to the less expensive course and the 10% discount to the following one.

ARAHAL
Arahal is a village in Seville’s countryside, a region situated in the eastern part of the province. It is a plain surrounded by Sierra Sur, Guadalquivir´s meadows and Los Alcores.
After the classes and aside from the festival´s activities, you will have the opportunity to visit the Museum Of The Woman In Flamenco (Casa del Aire), “las casas palacios” , the Town Hall and the old town with its vast gastronomic diversity. And don’t forget to try olives! Arahal is the world´s largest producer of olives “de mesa” and has an entire culture and tradition centered around this product.

THE “AL GURUGÚ” FESTIVAL, MEMORIAL NIÑA DE LOS PEINES
The Memorial Niña de los Peines, Al Gurugú, of Arahal is a festival that in its ten years has become one of the premier summer flamenco festivals in the province of Andalucia and is admired by critics and fans.

One unique aspect of this festival is its one-week duration. The activities are carried out during the entire week, from Monday to Saturday, with flamenco as the main focus of the event: exhibitions, round table discussions, conferences, performances etc. In an effort to appeal to the entire flamenco community, the variety of programs will cater to both traditional admirers and young people who want to learn about flamenco culture.
